Doppelgängers, superheroes, rival queens, toxic relationships, time loops, Ian McKellen and tap-dancing prisoners of war – we’ve got it all in this bumper second week of the ANU Film Group’s new Winter season!

• MON 6 MAY @ 7:30 PM: MCKELLEN: PLAYING THE PART (M, 91 mins)

A unique journey through the life of actor Ian McKellen, from his childhood to an acclaimed screen, stage and film career spanning nearly 60 years.

• WED 8 MAY @ 7:30 PM: SWING KIDS (MA, 133 mins)

During the Korean War in the 1950s, soldiers and prisoners at a POW camp work together to put on a tap dancing show to distract themselves from the atrocities around them.

• THU 9 MAY @ 7:30 PM: SHAZAM! (M, 132 mins)

A 14-year-old boy is granted the ability to magically transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) by simply shouting out his name, but is soon forced to put his newfound powers to the test.

• FRI 10 MAY @ 7:30 PM: US (MA, 116 mins) + HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U (M, 100 mins)

In US, a family's vacation at their beachfront home turns into a deadly fight for survival when their exact doppelgängers appear and begin to terrorise them. Directed by Jordan Peele (GET OUT).

Then, in HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U (at approx. 9:30 PM), a young woman stuck in a time loop in a parallel universe discovers that she must die over and over (again) to save her friends from a masked killer.

• SAT 11 MAY @ 7:30 PM: MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS (MA, 124 mins) + GRETA (MA, 99 mins)

In MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS, Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan) returns to Scotland to reclaim her throne, threatening the sovereignty of her rival and cousin, Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie).

Then, in GRETA (at approx. 9:45 PM), a young woman (Chloë Grace Moretz) returns a lost purse to a lonely widow (Isabelle Huppert), inadvertently beginning a friendship that soon becomes dangerous.

Thanks to Transmission Films, we have tickets to give away to the latest film from acclaimed British director Mike Leigh (SECRETS & LIES, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY, MR. TURNER).

PETERLOO is an epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter’s Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history.

The film is in cinemas from May 16, and you can view its trailer by CLICKING HERE.
