What's On This Week: THE POST, PADDINGTON 2, STRONGER and more!

We’re back to a full line-up of screenings this week, with some terrific films, including a Best Picture nominee (THE POST), a highly acclaimed family film (PADDINGTON 2), a powerful firefighting drama (ONLY THE BRAVE), director Woody Allen’s latest (WONDER WHEEL), and a hilarious comedy/mystery starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams (GAME NIGHT).

• WED 18 APR @ 7:30 PM: GAME NIGHT (MA, 100 min)

A group of friends get their weekly game night kicked up a notch when one of the group arranges a murder mystery party – complete with a very realistic kidnapping. But as the competitors set out to solve the case, they soon discover that neither the game nor their friends are what they seem to be. Starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams.

• THU 19 APR @ 7:30 PM: STRONGER (MA, 119 min)

In this exclusive Canberra premiere screening, Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Jeff Bauman, an ordinary man who loses both of his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. As he embarks on the long journey to physical and emotional rehabilitation, he unexpectedly finds himself becoming a symbol of hope around the world.

• FRI 20 APR @ 7:30 PM: THE POST (M, 116 min) + WONDER WHEEL (PG, 101 min)

In THE POST, America’s first female newspaper publisher (Meryl Streep) and her hard-driving editor (Tom Hanks) race to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets spanning three decades, risking their careers – and their freedom – in the process. Directed by Steven Spielberg, and nominated for two Oscars, including Best Picture.

Then, in WONDER WHEEL (at approx. 9:30 PM), the lives of four people – an emotionally volatile former actress (Kate Winslet), her carousel operator husband (Jim Belushi), a mysterious visitor on the run (Juno Temple), and a handsome young lifeguard (Justin Timberlake) – intertwine on Coney Island in the 1950s. Directed by Woody Allen.

• SAT 21 APR @ **5 PM**: PADDINGTON 2 (G, 103 min)

Paddington takes on a series of odd jobs to earn money to buy an antique book for his beloved aunt’s 100th birthday. But when a cunning thief (Hugh Grant) steals the prized book and frames Paddington for the crime, the marmalade-loving bear must find a way to uncover the culprit and clear his name. Also starring Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent and Brendan Gleeson.

• SAT 21 APR @ **7 PM**: ONLY THE BRAVE (M, 134 min)

The Granite Mountain Hotshots, one of America’s most elite firefighting teams, find their skills and camaraderie challenged in 2013 when an unprecedented wildfire in Yarnell, Arizona, requires them to risk everything to protect a town from imminent destruction. Based on a true story. Starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Connelly.
