PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY
Thoughtful teenager Johanne (Ella Øverbye) experiences a profound awakening when she falls secretly in love with her charismatic French teacher, Johanna (Selome Emnetu). Intrigued by her emerging feelings, Johanne documents her private desires and romantic longing in a personal journal. The situation escalates when her mother, Kristin (Ane Dahl Torp), and grandmother, Karin (Anne Marit Jacobsen), discover and secretly read the diary. Unbeknownst to Johanne, her candid writings trigger intense debates among the three women, forcing them to re-examine their own repressed desires and moral biases.
Directed by acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud, this delicate coming-of-age drama forms part of his thematic "Sex Dreams Love" trilogy exploring modern human relationships. Praised for its sensitive performances and nuanced, joyful perspective on teenage self-expression, Dreams notably became the first-ever Norwegian film to win The Golden Bear, the Berlin International Film Festival's top prize, in 2025.
