During the mid-2000s boom of reality television, ambitious journalist Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) launches an aggressive undercover sting program dedicated to ambushing suspected online predators on national broadcasts. Driven by an insatiable hunger for network ratings, the host and his zealous production team transform vigilante justice into primetime entertainment. As public fascination turns into mob hysteria, however, the show's boundary-pushing methods begin to cross severe ethical lines. And when a high-profile target is confronted during a chaotic police operation, the shocking outcome exposes the sinister consequences of prioritising viewership over human decency.
Marking documentarian Lance Oppenheim's narrative feature directorial debut, this dark psychological thriller was inspired by the controversial history of To Catch a Predator. It has received acclaimed for its razor-sharp media satire, unforgettable cinematography, and unhinged lead performance from Pattinson – the latest in the actor's banner year, which has so far included The Odyssey and The Drama.
