PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF SPAIN
Spanning three distinct eras of Spanish history, this epic drama explores the interconnected lives of three gay men. Bound together across time by shared threads of secret desire, artistic passion, and systemic oppression, the men – wealthy Carlos (Milo Quifes) in 1932, villager Sebastián (Guitarricadelafuente) in 1937, and historian Alberto (Carlos González) in 2017 – confront personal and political turmoil as historical conflicts rage around them..
Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, this sweeping yet intimate masterpiece was adapted from an unfinished text by Federico García Lorca. Supported by standout appearances from Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close, La Bola Negra has earned widespread critical acclaim in addition to a plethora of awards. Notably, the film is also widely tipped to be a frontrunner at next year's Oscars, including Best Picture and Best International Film, where it is Spain's official submission in the category.
