Set in 1936 during the Great Arab Revolt against British colonial rule, this sweeping historical epic follows idealistic youth Yusuf (Karim Daoud Anaya) as he moves between his rural village and Jerusalem in pursuit of his personal ambitions. When a widespread peasant uprising erupts against British authorities, Yusuf is drawn into the fight alongside resistance leaders Hanan (Hiam Abbass) and Khalid (Saleh Bakri). As British High Commissioner Arthur Wauchope (Jeremy Irons) enforces martial law with military might, Yusuf and his community face overwhelming hardship in their stand for self-determination.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, Palestine 36 offers a vital cinematic commemoration of anti-colonial resistance. An ambitious undertaking in scale and scope, it was selected as Palestine's official submission for Best International Film at the Oscars in 2026.
