Billionaire cosmetics empire heiress Marianne Farrère (Isabelle Huppert) leads a sheltered life of luxury as the world's wealthiest woman. However, her predictable existence is upended after meeting Pierre-Alain Fantin (Laurent Lafitte), a flamboyant writer and photographer. As the duo form an intimate, highly unconventional bond, Pierre-Alain rapidly takes financial advantage of her immense fortune. Deeply suspicious of his motives and alarmed by her mother's sudden lavish generosity, Marianne's estranged daughter Frédérique Spielman (Marina Foïs) launches a private investigation. The feud quickly escalates into a public legal battle, exposing bitter family secrets, covert politics, and shifting loyalties within high society.
Directed by Thierry Klifa, this sharp French comedy-drama is freely inspired by the notorious real-life Bettencourt scandal. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, the film drew praise for its witty screenplay and standout lead performances, earning César Award nominations for both Huppert and Lafitte.
