Spanning over a century, a single rural farmhouse in northern Germany serves as the backdrop for four generations of adolescent girls: Alma (Hanna Heckt), Erika (Lena Urzendowsky), Angelika (Lea Drinda), and Lenka (Laeni Geiseler). Though separated by decades of history, the young women experience parallel journeys defined by secret desires, isolation, and domestic trauma within the weathered walls of the estate. As the decades blur together, lingering echoes of the past emerge, revealing how generational secrets and suppressed female experiences silently resonate through the quiet landscape over time.
Visionary German director Mascha Schilinski helms this lyrical, gothic-infused period drama, co-writing the script alongside Louise Peter. The haunting cinematic portrait premiered in main competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it captured the coveted Jury Prize before sweeping the German Film Awards.
