The estranged children of Julian Christopher (Ian McKellen), a legendary but now reclusive artist, find themselves facing a financial crisis as their father's health declines. Desperate for a significant inheritance, the siblings (James Corden, Jessica Gunning) hatch a cynical plan to complete "The Christophers", their father's famous unfinished series of works. To this end, they hire a brilliant but struggling art forger named Lori (Michaela Coel) to infiltrate Julian’s studio and finish the canvases in his signature style. However, as Lori develops a genuine bond with the old master, she begins to question the morality of her task, leading to a complex web of deception, loyalty, and artistic integrity.
Directed by the ever-prolific Steven Soderbergh and written by Ed Solomon, this sharp-witted drama explores the thin line between authenticity and forgery. Of particular note is the electric chemistry between Coel and McKellen, underscoring a sharp-witted critique of the contemporary art market’s obsession with legacy and ego.
