In pre-revolutionary America, the visionary Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried) navigates a life shaped by profound trauma and tragedy. Alongside her devoted brother William (Lewis Pullman) and her husband Abraham (Christopher Abbott), she establishes a utopian society based on radical spiritual interpretations and communal pacifism. The result is the Shaker movement, with ecstatic, frenzied worship ceremonies that serve as a spiritual substitute for traditional domestic life. And as Ann’s influence grows, she must lead her followers through intense persecution to secure their place in a changing nation.

Directed by Mona Fastvold, this historical musical drama has been lauded for Seyfried’s career-defining performance. Critics have particularly praised the evocative score by Daniel Blumberg and the film's 70mm cinematography, which brings a lush, immersive quality to this complex portrait of one of history’s most influential religious pioneers.
