In this intimate yet panoramic documentary, director Yaara Bou Melhem crafts a compelling portrait of Banjima Elder Maitland Parker and his lifelong fight to protect and heal his homeland, which is known as Yurlu in the Banjima language. The homeland in question is the breathtaking Pilbara region of Western Australia, which is also home to Wittenoom, the site of the largest contaminated site in the Southern Hemisphere due to toxic asbestos mining.
Melhem, a five-time Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist, documents Parker's tireless environmental and cultural activism to showcase the importance of healing the land and preserving his heritage for future generations, all while battling mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer linked to asbestos exposure. This film is a stunning tribute to cultural preservation and a damning indictment of environmental devastation, demanding attention to this essential Australian story.

Celebrated American indie director Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, Frances Ha) returns with this heartfelt comedy-drama featuring an all-star ensemble led by the unlikely duo of George Clooney and Adam Sandler. Clooney plays the eponymous Jay Kelly, a famous movie star who, following a personal loss, embarks on an unexpected and profound journey across Europe with his long-suffering manager, Ron (Sandler). Along the way, both men are forced to confront the choices they’ve made, the relationships with their loved ones, and the legacies they’ll leave behind.
A witty and existential exploration of the choices we make in life, Jay Kelly provides a showcase for a surprisingly vulnerable turn from Clooney alongside further proof of Sandler’s considerable dramatic chops. As far as Hollywood satires go, Baumbach’s deconstruction of hollow trappings of fame probably could do with more bite – but that’s perhaps more than you could ask of an entertaining crowd-pleaser such as this.
