16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence is a global annual campaign led by UN Women, with the aim of raising awareness of and preventing violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 to Human Rights Day on December 10. The ANU Film Group is proud to be supporting this campaign in 2025 by hosting four FREE film screenings about equality and women’s rights during the 16 Days.

And Still I Sing follows controversial Afghan pop star and feminist activist Aryana Sayeed as she mentors young singers on Afghan Star, a popular local TV singing competition. Zahra Elham and Sadiqa Madadgar are two determined young women striving to become the contest’s first-ever female winners in its 13-year run, fighting for the rights of Afghan women and challenging patriarchal norms through the power of music.
Director Fazila Amiri captures their deeply affecting artistic journey in the face of constant death threats, misogyny and political takeovers. This documentary is a hopeful yet heartbreaking testament to courage, sisterhood, and the enduring fight for freedom.
