PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF FRANCE AND INSTITUT FRANCAIS
Set against the backdrop of a decaying town in Eastern France, And Their Children After Them is an epic coming-of-age drama that spans four pivotal summers in the 1990s. The story begins in August 1992, with 14-year-old Anthony (Paul Kircher) whose bored life is transformed when he meets the older, more sophisticated Stéphanie (Angelina Woreth) by a local lake. Determined to see her again, Anthony makes the fateful decision to secretly borrow his volatile father’s cherished motorcycle to attend a party. This minor transgression escalates when the bike is stolen by Hacine (Sayyid El Alami), a rebellious teenager from an immigrant family, igniting a bitter feud that irreversibly intertwines their destinies.
Adapting the acclaimed novel by Nicolas Mathieu, twin directors Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma explore generational struggle and thwarted aspirations in a forgotten, little-seen corner of France, capturing the raw intensity of youth on a grand scale with cinematic flair.
