Having built an acclaimed career directing such dark, intense films as Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan and The Whale, who can blame Darren Aronofsky for wanting to do something a little more fun?
His latest is a star-studded, darkly comedic crime thriller based on the novel by Charlie Huston, which takes a gritty, fast-paced dive into the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City. It stars Austin Butler as Hank Thompson, a washed-up high school baseball prodigy turned bartender whose life takes a chaotic turn when he agrees to cat-sit for his punk-rock neighbour, Russ (Matt Smith). This seemingly simple favour inadvertently ensnares Hank in a dangerous $4 million scheme as he quickly finds himself on the run from a motley crew of ruthless gangsters, played by the likes of Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio and Bad Bunny. Crime has never been so entertaining!
