A new era for the DC Universe begins with this highly anticipated film written and directed by the Guardian of the Galaxy trilogy’s James Gunn. Bold, bright and fun, Gunn’s Superman isn’t shy about honouring the hero’s comic book roots while offering a new vision for a character that has already appeared in no less than 12 iterations across movies and TV. It wisely skips the origin story, instead introducing American actor David Corenswet as Clark Kent three years into his journey as Superman, with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) by his side.

As the film begins, Superman has become the target of global suspicion after interfering in a multinational war. And it’s not long before evil billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and his army of enhanced soldiers set out to destroy him. Throw in a film-stealing appearance by Krypto, Superman’s mischievous cape-wearing canine sidekick, and there might be some life left in comic book movies yet.
