It’s no secret that Disney’s recent streak of live-action adaptations of their animated library has proven largely uninspired and unnecessary. Fortunately, this new take on Lilo & Stitch manages to recapture the adorable charm of the beloved 2002 original while expanding its exploration of Hawaiian culture, making for one of their most acclaimed and successful recent efforts.

The heartwarming tale follows young Lilo (Maia Kealoha) and her older sister Nani (Sydney Elizabeth Agudong) as they struggle to cope with the loss of their parents. Their lonely existence on the island of Kauaʻi is upended by the arrival of Stitch, aka Experiment 626, an mischievous alien on the run from intergalactic authorities. Initially believing him to be a dog, Lilo adopts Stitch, sparking an unlikely friendship which challenges their definitions of belonging and family – or “ohana”.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, best known for the charming Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, this vibrant remake also features Chris Sanders – co-director of the animated original – reprising his iconic voice role as Stitch.

Prepare for a new kind of terror in Sean Byrne's Dangerous Animals, a visceral survival horror film that proves the most terrifying predators – even in Australia – often walk on two legs. This intense film follows Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), an American drifter surfer who finds herself in a horrifying predicament when she's abducted by Tucker (Jai Courtney), an unhinged and sadistic Aussie boat captain. And unfortunately for Zephyr, who is held captive on his boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Tucker has a chilling hobby: filming people being devoured by sharks.

Acclaimed Australian horror director Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones, The Devil’s Candy) makes his long-awaited return to filmmaking with this harrowing subversion of shark and serial killer thrillers. Crafted with his trademark blend of dark viciousness and unsettling humour, it’s a truly cinematic thrill ride – buoyed by a deranged, revelatory performance from Courtney.
