FOLLOWED BY IN-PERSON Q&A WITH DIRECTOR/WRITER/ACTOR WILL HOWARTH & ACTOR/WRITER TALIA ZUCKER
It’s the not-too-distant future and times are tough for farmers like married couple Layla (Talia Zucker) and Jack (Ashley Zukerman). With their son away at boarding school, Jack spends his days on their isolated cattle farm experimenting with new biotechnology, hoping to improve their odds in an industry decimated by the climate crisis. One fateful night, after Layla inadvertently causes a blackout, a mysterious presence infiltrates their property, pushing their already strained relationship to the breaking point.
Australian co-directors Tom McKeith and Will Howarth deliver a suspenseful and thought-provoking sci-fi drama that explores the unsettling intersection of technology, isolation, and human connection. Strong performances, stellar sound design, starkly beautiful landscapes (Goulburn and Cooma, for anyone wondering) accelerates the already-lean runtime, leading to an unexpected final act that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
