When former 80s video game champion Garrett Garrison (Jason Momoa) accidentally stumbles upon the Orb of Dominance, he and three friends are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland built on imagination. To find their way back home, the group of misfits will need to enlist the help of an enigmatic resident named Steve (Jack Black). Together, they embark on an epic adventure that not only tests their courage, but also challenges them to reconnect with their long-forgotten creativity.

Based on the world-building video game phenomenon, A Minecraft Movie is quite literally a block-buster in every sense of the word. Directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), and with Black and Momoa clearly enjoying themselves, A Minecraft Movie is an infectiously fun, goofy romp.

On the way to an idyllic lakeside estate for a weekend getaway with a group of friends, things couldn’t be more romantic for Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and her boyfriend Josh (Jack Quaid). But the trip soon takes a dark turn when the shocking truth about Iris is revealed: she's a companion robot, programmed to fulfill Josh's desires.

As Iris attempts to rebel against Josh's control, tensions escalate within the group and further unsettling truths emerge. It’s not long before the weekend spirals into chaos, violence and unpredictable consequences.

With stellar performances from Thatcher and Quaid, Companion is a thought-provoking and darkly comedic thriller which explores highly topical themes of relationships, power, and what it means to be human. You’d have to be a robot not to enjoy it.
