In December 2013, Latvian-Australian journalist Peter Greste (Richard Roxburgh) finds his routine Cairo assignment turned into a nightmare when he is arrested and falsely accused of terrorism. Suddenly the subject of international news himself, Greste realises that he has become a pawn in a dangerous political game fuelled by corruption and ancient rivalries. Relying only on his wits and the help of unexpected allies, he must stare down a brutal regime in order to stay alive long enough to be freed.

Directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog) and adapted from Greste’s own memoir, The Correspondent is a compelling thriller that chronicles one man’s fight for survival against overwhelming odds. As Greste, Roxburgh has never been better and his reserved, introspective performance here carries what is unquestionably an important story, skilfully and powerfully told.
