More than 20 years after his show-stealing supporting turn in the 2003 Australian crime comedy Gettin’ Square, David Wenham returns as Australia’s favourite dim-witted larrikin – small-time criminal Johnny “Spit” Spitieri – in his very own spin-off.
This hilariously chaotic homecoming begins with our eponymous protagonist bumbling through Toowoomba airport, attempting to slip back into the country on a false passport after spending many years abroad. But Spit is promptly apprehended and sent to an immigration detention centre, where he unexpectedly bonds with his fellow detainees. It’s not long, however, before word of his return spreads, with old adversaries on both side of the law coming out of the woodwork to settle a score with the mulleted “criminal mastermind”.
