In 1947, mild-mannered banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) has his world turned upside down after being found guilty of a crime he did not commit: the double murders of his wife and her lover. Despite his claims of innocence, he is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in the Shawshank State Prison. There, he befriends a fellow prisoner, Ellis “Red” Redding (Morgan Freeman), who takes him under his wing and shows him how to make the most of a life behind bars.
