By now, you probably have some inkling of whether you’re a fan of Wes Anderson's cinematic sensibilities or not. There’s certainly no denying he’s one of the most fascinating directors working today, and his latest film – his 11th – stays true to form with his unique visual aesthetic and awkward characters played by starry casts. Framed as a televised version of a fictional play, it tells a meta-textual tale set in the remote desert town of Asteroid City in the 1950s. As the town plays host to a youth astronomy convention, junior stargazers and space cadets (and their parents) from across the country converge, only to have their world spectacularly disrupted by extra-terrestrial events.

Along for the ride are Anderson regulars including Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum, accompanied by newcomers such as Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie and Steve Carrell.

When naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell) is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug (Will Forte), he’s not sure he can go on living. That is, until he falls in with a fast-talking and foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug (voiced by Jamie Foxx), who enjoys nothing more than the freedom of being a stray. After helping Reggie see Doug for the heartless sleazeball that he is, the two pals join forces with other neglected pups to hatch a plan to get sweet revenge… doggy style!

Make no mistake: this is no kids film. Despite featuring cutesy talking dogs, this live-action comedy could not be more howl-mouthed or paw-verse – but full-grown pups will lap it up.
