Celebrated conductor Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett) has it all: a dream job conducting the Berlin Philharmonic, countless awards, a supportive partner (Nina Hoss) and an angelic daughter. Her glittering career is about to hit its peak with the publication of her memoir and the impending recording of Gustav Mahler’s monumental Fifth symphony, but as her focus inadvertently shifts to old bad habits, her perfectly constructed life begins to unravel.
Featuring a stunning, virtuoso performance for the ages from Blanchett, the first film in 16 years from director Todd Field (In The Bedroom, Little Children) was well worth the wait.
Nominated for 6 Oscars in 2023, including Best Picture.
