When his Dutch mother – known affectionately as Oma – was first diagnosed with dementia, Sydney-based filmmaker Jason van Genderen knew there was only one thing he could do: document it. Together with his wife and young children, he began capturing unassuming videos of Oma out and about to preserve the precious memories being stripped away from her. But what first began as a time capsule soon became much more when he began sharing the videos on social media in solidarity with other families in similar situations. And when COVID hit and the world went into lockdown, they exploded in popularity, becoming a global viral sensation and attracting over 100 million views.

Equally uplifting and heartbreaking, Everybody’s Oma documents the van Genderen family’s footsteps as they navigate Oma’s failing health under the spotlight of strangers. A loving tribute to a woman well-loved, and to the family who will never forget her.

Mayhem ensues in this comedy of errors when two pregnant couples from opposing ends of the social spectrum – one extremely rich and the other miserably poor – are forced to share a room at a hospital after delivery. But it soon transpires that giving birth may have been the easiest part, as events spiral out of the control with each passing minute.
