Why do humans get to have all the fun? In a world where there are more cinematic superheroes than you can count, this animated romp imagines what happens when those heroes need rescuing. After the Justice League – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman et al – are captured, Superman’s equally superheroic pet dog Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) convince a rag-tag group of shelter animals to master their own newfound powers and save the day.

With slapstick humour, kid-friendly action, irreverent humour and plenty of gags for the adults too, this all-star adventure also features the voices of Kevin Hart, John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon, Olivia Wilde and, yes, even Keanu Reeves as Batman himself. In no mean feat, DC League of Super-Pets pulls off what many other superhero films have struggled to summon lately: being fun.

Set in 1950s Chicago, The Outfit follows Leonard (Mark Rylance), an expert English tailor who used to craft suits on Savile Row, but after a personal tragedy, now operates a small shop in the Windy City catering for vicious gangsters. He ensures that they are dressed to kill (literally) and, in turn, they keep his business afloat. But one night, two killers knock on his door in need of a favour – thrusting Leonard into a deadly hunt to find the mole who betrayed the most powerful mobster in town.

With a compelling performance from Oscar-winning chameleon Rylance (most recently seen in last season’s Phantom of the Open, and appearing again this season in Bones and All on January 14), this captivating crime drama proves that classic thrills and twists never go out of style.
