The latest film from director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car) is a collection of three short stories following three women as they trace the trajectories between their choices and regrets. Each of the stories explores the nuances of relationships in modern day Japan in very different contexts: an unexpected love triangle between ex-lovers; a student’s failed attempt at blackmail; and a chance encounter between two classmates resulting from a misunderstanding.

Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy is an understated and unpredictable film which leaves viewers to ponder how the right and wrong paths taken in life can sometimes simply be shaped by chance.
