Suzu (Kaho Nakamura) is a deeply unhappy high schooler who’s still struggling to come to terms with her mother’s untimely death a few years ago. Seeking solace, she joins a fantastic virtual reality universe in which she adopts an enhanced avatar named Belle. As it turns out, the ethereally beautiful Belle has an extraordinary singing voice, and much to Suzu’s astonishment, soon becomes a globally beloved music superstar.

Her success is disrupted, however, by a mysterious outcast known as The Beast, who is on the run from ruthless vigilantes inside the virtual world. Intrigued by The Beast, Belle sets out to learn more about him and perhaps even uncover his identity in the real world.

A dazzling and visually sumptuous new take on a tale as old as time, this critically lauded Japanese anime is the latest from Oscar-nominated director Mamoru Hosoda (Mirai, Wolf Children).
