After banishing the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from Earth, Sonic’s (voiced by Ben Schwartz) only wish is to continue using his speedy powers to help those in need – but it turns out not everyone needs a hero all the time.

Opportunity soon comes calling when Robotnik returns with a new partner – the super-strong Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba) – to seek out a legendary emerald with the power to bend reality. Teaming up with a two-tailed fox named Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey), everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog must embark on a globe-trotting adventure to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

The first Sonic film overcame fan trepidation to become the most successful film based on a video game ever made. Thankfully, this supersized sequel is more of the same – with more characters, more action and more of everything you enjoyed the first time around.

Reclusive, middle-aged author Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) has made a successful career writing romance-adventure novels. To promote her latest work, she goes on a book tour with her hunky cover model, Alan (Channing Tatum). The tour takes an unexpected detour when she is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who believes she knowns the location of a priceless treasure. Wanting to prove her can be a hero in real life, Alan sets out to rescue her.

What follows is an adventure-comedy caper that, while many may recognise the outcome, is still thoroughly entertaining. Will our cover model be able to rescue his author? Will the villain find the treasure? And why is Brad Pitt here?

With Bullock recently announcing that she’s taking time away from acting, The Lost City may be one of the last opportunities to see the 35-year veteran on screen for a while.
