María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason) live with their herd of sheep on a beautiful but remote farm in the Icelandic hills. Their mundane existence is soon reinvigorated by a miraculous discovery in their sheep shed: a mysterious newborn who is half human, half lamb. Deciding to keep the creature, they opt to raise it as their own and the prospect of new family initially brings them much joy. But a shadow is cast over their newfound happiness when Ingvar’s ex-pop star brother Pétur (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson) unexpectedly pays them a visit.

Lamb won the Un Certain Regard Prize of Originality at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, and that pretty much sums up all you need to know about the film. It’s a bold, atmospheric cinematic experience that is near impossible to categorise in any particular genre, but deserving of admiration nonetheless.
