Dream Horse is based on the inspiring true story of an unlikely racehorse named Dream Alliance. The story starts when Jan Vokes (Toni Collette), a bartender in a small struggling Welsh community, pitches a bold idea to her townsfolk: if just twenty of them put in £10 a week for two years, they could buy and train a racehorse, and maybe finally get a share of the good life.

Although none of them have any experience whatsoever with horseracing, they decide to take the chance. And as their horse defies the odds to rise all the way to the Welsh Grand National, it becomes a beacon of hope for not only their local community, but also their fellow Welsh countryfolk.

Fun fact: The real Dream Alliance retired from racing in 2012 and is still alive and well as of this writing.
