Dogman is an Italian crime drama directed by Matteo Garrone that, like his internationally-acclaimed hit Gomorrah, is also set in the grimy and crime-ridden outskirts of Napoli. Picked by Italy as their submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars in 2019, this multi-award-winning thriller is a grim character study based on a remarkable true story.

The film follows mild-mannered Marcello (Marcello Fonte), who runs a small-time dog grooming business and would do anything for his young daughter. So when he gets involved with a petty criminal (Edoardo Pesce), Marcello soon finds himself swept up in a criminal plan he wants nothing to do with in order to protect his family.

Shot and set in Melbourne, this Australian psychological thriller is the second feature from director Kim Farrant (Strangerland) and Oscar-nominated screenwriter Luke Davies (Lion).

Seven years after the tragic death of her young daughter, depressed single mum Lizzie (Noomi Rapace) is still grieving – until she spots a seven-year-old girl who is the splitting image of her late daughter. Grief soon gives way to obsession as Lizzie begins following the young girl and attempts to befriend the girl’s mother (Yvonne Strahovski), propelling them towards a shocking confrontation.

Also starring Luke Evans and Richard Roxburgh, Angel of Mine is a complex and compelling thriller.
