** PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF BELGIUM **
Like many young girls, fifteen-year-old Lara dreams of becoming a ballerina. Unlike other girls, however, Lara faces the obstacle of being born in a boy’s body. Girl follows Lara’s difficult and physically punishing journey through adolescence and a dance academy, whilst also undergoing hormone treatment prior to gender reassignment.
Belgian dancer and cisgender male actor Victor Polster has received several awards – amidst some controversy – for his portrayal of transgender Lara. He won the Jury Award for Best Performance at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where the film also won three other awards, including the Caméra d’Or for Best First Feature.
Please note that this film contains sexual content and full frontal nudity involving Polster who was 14 at the time (with his parents’ consent).
