As a young rookie cop, LAPD detective Erin Bells (Nicole Kidman) infiltrated a gang in the California desert on an undercover mission that went horribly – and tragically – wrong. Years later, Bell is a shell of her former self and barely hanging on to her job. And when a figure from her past re-emerges, she is forced to face her past and confront her demons once and for all.

Destroyer is a dark, gritty crime thriller with an outstanding performance by Kidman who completely transformed herself – both inside and out – to play such a formidable and unlikeable character, scoring a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

After a successful rehearsal in an abandoned school, a troupe of dancers begin celebrating their upcoming tour. The party takes a dark turn, however, when they begin to suspect that their drinks have been spiked with LSD, leading to paranoia and confusion amongst the group.

Like Lars von Trier and Darren Aronofsky, French-Argentinian director Gaspar Noé is lauded for his technically brilliant, experimental films that are provocative, intense and sometimes upsetting. Climax is no different, having been shot in only 15 days, unrehearsed and improvised by a cast of mostly dancers with no acting experience. The end result is a unique cinematic experience: a sensory overload, pulsating with sex, violence and pointed social commentary.
