Underworld is as dark as Beckinsale's black latex (which I'm sure she stole from Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix). This is a very gothic movie about vampires and Lycans (werewolves). The story goes that werewolves and vampires have been fighting a war for centuries, and humans have no idea. But while most vampires are having blood cocktail parties toasting themselves as the victor in the war, vamp warrior Selene (Beckinsale) hunts the Lycans. She discovers they are after Michael (Speedman), a human doctor. She captures him first to find out why. It turns out he may have the key to end the war. And also Selene thinks he's kind of cute. Be prepared for a bit of a twist though. I must admit that some of the effects and fight scenes in this film are a bit outdone by movies like The Matrix, but there are some very clever weapons and cinematography harnessed. Overall this is a great fantasy thriller, but might not be everyone's cup of blood.

Ten people are trapped in a motel by a storm - a cop escorting a convicted felon, a movie starlet and her limo driver, a child and his parents, a newly married couple, a prostitute and the motel manager. One by one, they are murdered, and with each murder a room key is left behind, starting at ten and counting down. This movie is right up my alley and as such I enjoyed it immensely. It's a well-constructed thriller with some horror elements to it, some humour, and a surprise ending or two thrown in for good measure. Many may say that Identity is predictable... however I believe that's one of this movie's stronger points. All the clues are presented to you so the murderer's final revealing actually makes sense. However, most will not be able to predict the exact details of what's going on in the motel. Identity is a great thriller. Fans of the genre will definitely enjoy it, fans of who-dunnits may be slightly disappointed, but I'm sure almost everyone (who isn't fazed by scary movies) will like it on some level. Personally, I think it's one of the best movies I saw in 2003.
