PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF SWITZERLAND IN CELEBRATION OF WORLD BEE DAY

Living with her ailing mother in the remote mountain village of Bekirlija in North Macedonia, Hatidže Muratova is the last female beekeeper in Europe. Her quiet existence is disrupted when an unruly family of nomad beekeepers move into the village and start beekeeping too but disregard a cardinal rule: to collect only half of the honey produced and leave the other half for the bees. With the delicate ecosystem now disrupted, Hatidže must find a way to restore the natural balance of Honeyland.

Filmed over three years and distilled from more than 400 hours of footage, Honeyland is an eye-opening, visually stunning film that offers something sweet for everyone. Nominated for both Best International Film and Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars in 2020.

Once an operative for the clandestine government agency known as ‘Beekeepers’, Adam Clay (Jason Statham) now lives a quiet life as an actual beekeeper in a barn belonging to the kindly and elderly Eloise (Phylicia Rashad). But when she commits suicide after losing her charity’s funds to a phishing scam, Clay vows revenge on the perpetrators and sets out to exact bloody revenge – even if it takes him deep into a vast and far-reaching conspiracy.

If it’s B-movie (get it?) thrills you’re after, it doesn’t get better than The Beekeeper with its enjoyably undemanding thrills and bounty of bee-related one-liners. Plus, who doesn’t want to see Jason Statham reliably dispatching endless armies of bad guys while somehow managing to make a beekeeping outfit look macho?
