The Mallards are a flock of ducks living in the serene surrounds of a New England pond, which overprotective family patriarch Mack (Kumail Nanjiani) is more than happy to keep paddling around in for the rest of his days. But mother Pam (Elizabeth Banks) is keen to show their kids that there’s a whole wide world still to be seen. Eventually deciding to head South for the winter on an adventure to sunny Jamaica, they soon learn that spreading their wings beyond the familiar is harder – and more perilous – than it seems.

Migration is the latest film from Illumination, the studio behind animated hits like Despicable Me, Sing and The Secret Life of Pets. And much like those, it is charming, gorgeously animated and bursting with life thanks to an entertaining voice cast.

Desperate for a job to support his orphaned kid sister (Piper Rubio), troubled young Mike (Josh Hutcherson) agrees to take a job as the night security guard for an abandoned theme restaurant: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. After his first night on the job, however, he soon realises that nothing at Freddy’s is as it appears. Aided by a local police officer (Elizabeth Lail), Mike discovers the dark history behind the restaurant’s façade, while attempting to confront his own traumatic past. Meanwhile, the giant animatronic mascots which were the once-beloved highlight of the restaurant lie dormant… or do they?

One of the most successful horror films of 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a genuinely creepy thrill ride that, if anything, could’ve done with a bit more gore befitting its hit video game origins.
