2006 President's Report

The President welcomes in our 40th year of operation.
This is probably almost unbelievable to the small group of film lovers who started the Film Group all those years ago, but the Film Group is turning 40 this year. And everyone knows that there is no better time for a celebration than a birthday ... or in our case, a year long birthday party.
We have faced a lot of challenges over recent years Ð the removal of our main car park to make way for a new building, the availability of DVDs and downloads, and some periods of average film making - but there have also been some great times including a visit from David Stratton in 2003, the implementation of our membership system, upgrades to our equipment. The 40th Anniversary celebrations plan to celebrate our journey over the last four decades Ð hopefully with a bumper year from membership as we encourage you to tell your friends and family that we are still here and we are still excellent value.
As usual, I want to put out a special thanks to the members of the Committee who have worked so hard during last year, kindly donating their time and efforts, to make the group run so well, except that this time around they also had a birthday to organise! I am really proud of our achievements and they couldnÕt have happened without the very diligent and hard working Committee. I would also like to extend my thanks to those members of the Group who are not on the Committee (even though we have probably attempted to have them join) but have also willingly given their time at screenings, in sub-committees, and just through general correspondence with the Group in order to help us continue to do the things we do ... but better. Your help has been much appreciated.
This year, as well as our usual range of interesting screenings, we kicked up our heels at our Cineball in March, and have plans for a trivia night in September, as well as a Top 40 competition, a Photo Competition and hopefully some extra things in the pipeline for the incoming Committee to work on. We have been very lucky in that along the way we have found some generous sponsors who have provided prizes for our events. It has been fantastic to have the support of these businesses and we say a big thank you for their assistance and hope you enjoy their donations. Anyway, enough talking and more birthday cake! I would like to extend a personal invitation to all of our members to join in our activities and really make this year a celebration of what is an amazing milestone for this group.
