What’s On This Week + Win Tickets to CRIMSON PEAK!

30th September, 2015

Say goodbye to September and hello to October at the Film Group this week with a series of films centred around life and death. But that’s not to say they’re anything alike – as the films include a Best Foreign Film Oscar nominee in its Canberra premiere, two pulse-pounding action thrillers, an acclaimed biopic, and a heartfelt Australian drama. Only at the ANU Film Group!

• Wed 30 Sep @ 7:30 PM: TANGERINES

Despite war breaking out around him, an Estonian villager stays to harvest his crop of tangerines – and finds himself taking in two wounded enemy soldiers who arrive at his door. Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.

• Fri 2 Oct @ 7:30 PM: SELF/LESS + THE GUEST

In SELF/LESS, a dying billionaire (Ben Kingsley) transfers his consciousness into a body of a healthy younger man (Ryan Reynolds), but soon finds that the radical procedure – and the organisation that performed it – is not quite what it seems.

Then, in THE GUEST (at approx. 9:30 PM), a soldier arrives at the home of a family, claiming to be a friend of their late son. After the family invites him to stay with them, a series of accidental deaths cast suspicion on his claims.

• Sat 3 Oct @ **7 PM**: LAST CAB TO DARWIN + LOVE & MERCY

In LAST CAB TO DARWIN, an ailing cab driver (Michael Caton) embarks on an epic drive through the outback to die on his own terms, but his journey and the people he meets along the way reveal a whole new outlook on life.

Then, in LOVE & MERCY (at approx. 9:15 PM), Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggles with mental illness as a young artist at the peak of his talent in the 1960s (Paul Dano) and as an older, broken man in the 1980s (John Cusack).
